Week 4 – Activity – Plaster Casting

plaster 2 plaster 3 plaster

This week was Plaster Casting at the beach! My plaster casting took place at Huntington beach with classmate Charlie Teloma and friend, Chris Fisher. Although there is not much, there is a tiny bit of me that is a perfectionist. Especially when it comes to me making art, I tend to be get caught up with detail and precision. For this reason, it was a very new experience for me to experiment with plaster casting. Not only had I never done it before, but there was a lot of uncertainty in the process of making it. Trying to get the right consistency of the plaster, and making a good enough mold without the sand collapsing and not breaking it when removing it proved to be a little difficult. In the end results, my beautiful limb of a hand isn’t entirely clear, but when I see the imperfections in my cast I am reminded of the fun process that went into the piece. Plus chilling at the beach and having extra plaster to play with is never bad! 🙂
