I viewed Romina Del Castillo’s art exhibit this week, titled “Shifting Focus.” What initially stood out to me, and continues to do so, is Castillo’s mixture of colors. The black and white that comes from her choice of charcoal is very powerful and speaks to the subject’s personality. In each of her portraits I could feel the subject’s personality being displayed through their body language and the color. In some of her portraits for example the above one, she includes large splashes of color, which can add highly to the feel of the piece. The use of the vibrant colors can add joy and and power. In the same way her choice to omit color in some of the pieces also adds to its tone. Castillo’s exhibit was different than most others that I have chosen to examine in the past weeks. Her work if extremely detailed and incorporated different mediums.
